Carl Oscar Wegeberg: game intelligence and ambition for Union Vrede

By Union Vrede FC editorial team15 October 2026

Fourth in Europe with Denmark, MVP of the Mar Menor Cup 2022 and ready for Alanya: Carl Oscar brings international experience, energy and joy of playing to Union Vrede.

Understanding beach soccer like a game of chess. Seeing the details that can decide a match. And at the same time finding the freedom to play creatively, take on an opponent and create chances.

That is how Carl Oscar Wegeberg sees the game.

The 25-year-old Dane is studying economics at the University of Copenhagen and also works on international energy cooperation at the Danish Energy Agency. On the sand, he combines technique, pace and game intelligence with the conviction that a strong team is always more than the sum of its players.

His football journey began at the age of five with Hellerup IK. In 2019, he discovered beach soccer: a fast-paced, creative sport packed with goals and acrobatics. It proved to be a choice that took him from Copenhagen BSC to international club experiences and the Danish national team.

This year Denmark finished fourth in Europe. The medals were within touching distance, but above all the team's togetherness has stayed with him. He even views his MVP award at the Mar Menor Cup as a collective achievement.

In Alanya he will once again team up with Casper Dorph, who knows his qualities inside out. He also brings along the lessons of Llorenç Gómez: believing that anything is possible and understanding why the smallest details make all the difference.

Why Union Vrede? Because he believes in the project, its future and the foundation of this team.

He wants to express his contribution not only through his actions on the pitch, but also through tactical insight, energy and fun. Meet Carl Oscar Wegeberg.

1. Can you briefly introduce yourself and tell us a bit about Carl Oscar off the pitch?

I am 25 years old and studying economics at the University of Copenhagen. Alongside my studies, I work on international energy cooperation at the Danish Energy Agency.

2. How did your football journey begin and how did you discover beach soccer? When did you realize this sport was something special for you?

I started playing football at the age of five at Hellerup IK and played at elite level until I was seventeen. In 2019, I discovered beach soccer and quickly realized it was something special. The game is fast, creative and full of goals and acrobatics. The development, the traveling and the experiences convinced me that this was the sport I wanted to go for.

3. You played for Copenhagen BSC and Rostocker Robben, among others. Which experiences in club beach soccer contributed most to your development?

At Copenhagen BSC I learned the basics of beach soccer and found a strong community and training environment. Traveling the world and playing for different clubs, including Rostocker Robben, has helped me immensely to develop as a player. A special experience was my trip to the United States, where I played for Atlético Rio and Barra de Santiago.

4. In 2022 you were voted MVP of the Mar Menor Cup. What did that recognition mean to you and what do you remember most about the tournament?

It was great recognition and proof that my hard work was paying off. But I see it as a team achievement, because you only become MVP when the team around you performs well. I especially remember our victory against Marbella during that tournament.

5. How would you describe yourself as a player? What are your greatest qualities on the sand and what do you still want to improve?

I play as a winger/defender and I am a technical player with great vision and a strong understanding of the game. I love using my speed, taking on opponents one-on-one and creating chances. I am constantly working to become the best version of myself on the pitch.

6. What does it mean to you to represent Denmark and what has the national team taught you, as a player and as a person?

It is an enormous honor to wear the red shirt. The national team has taught me discipline and responsibility, and shown me that small details decide matches. As a person, it taught me to stand together for something bigger than yourself.

7. Denmark finished fourth in Europe this year. How did you experience that achievement and what made this team so strong?

It was a fantastic journey, even though it was tough coming so close to the medals. The team had a unity and determination where everyone fought for each other.

8. You know Casper Dorph from Danish beach soccer and now you are working together at Union Vrede. How would you describe your bond and what do you appreciate about him as a coach?

It will be a pleasure to have my national team coach as my coach at Union Vrede as well. Casper is a fantastic person, both on and off the pitch. He knows me and my style of play very well and knows exactly how to get the best out of me.

9. You were also able to learn from Llorenç Gómez. What advice or details from working together have stayed with you most?

From Llorenç I mainly learned to believe that anything is possible. He taught me to understand beach soccer like a game of chess. He pays tremendous attention to detail, and that makes all the difference.

10. Why did you say yes to Union Vrede and what are you looking forward to most in Alanya?

I said yes because the project sounds fantastic and I believe it has a bright future. I also think the team has a very strong foundation to perform well.

11. We have little time to train together before the tournament. What will be the most important factor in quickly building a good understanding and team chemistry?

The most important thing is clear communication and simple principles that everyone knows. We need to quickly get to know each other's qualities and create a great atmosphere from day one. The chemistry off the pitch translates directly onto the pitch.

12. Which match, which goal or which moment from your beach soccer career will you never forget? Tell us the story behind it.

I will never forget my goal against Spain at last year's European Championship. The same goes for our victory against Italy in the 2024 World Cup qualifiers.

13. What are your personal ambitions and those for the team at the World Winners Cup? What do you want to contribute to Union Vrede?

Personally, I want to contribute tactical insight, energy and enjoyment. For the team, the goal is to go as far as possible.

14. What message would you like to give to your new teammates and the supporters of Union Vrede ahead of the journey to Alanya?

I am really looking forward to meeting all of you. Let's give it everything in Alanya and make Union Vrede proud. Thank you for the warm welcome, see you on the sand! 🟡⚫
