A true example at a difficult time: Idriz Mehmedov's last match

By Union Vrede FC editorial team17 April 2025

Yesterday we claimed one of the most memorable and thrilling victories of recent seasons – a 9-8 win against a strong opponent with players active in the third tier of Belgian futsal. But beyond the result and the spectacle, this match was also special for another reason: it was Idriz Mehmedov's last game in a UVFC shirt.

Arriving at a time of uncertainty

When Idriz joined Union Vrede FC during the winter break, the team was going through a difficult phase. There was plenty of individual talent, but no real team. The atmosphere was uncertain – changing line-ups, a lack of stability and little chemistry between the players.

In these circumstances, Idriz not only found his place, he became an essential part of the rebuild. Through discipline, respect for the process and boundless commitment, he grew into one of the most reliable players in the squad. Always on time, always prepared, always available – no conflicts, no drama. Just work, heart and dedication.

His best match – when it was needed most

Until yesterday, Idriz had never worn the captain's armband. But in his very last match for UVFC, he was rightly given the honour of leading the team. Not because of a title, but because of the example he sets.

The tough match against a classy opponent became the perfect stage for his character. We took the lead in the first minute, but then dropped off and soon found ourselves 1-4 down. Then came the moment of character – and Idriz led from the front. With two starters unexpectedly dropping out, we had an exceptionally short bench. Idriz played the entire match without a break, gave everything and kept going until the final whistle.

He didn't just play – he inspired. He encouraged, he closed the gaps, he led. Like a true captain – in spirit, not in title.

A legacy that lasts

Idriz leaves the club the way he always stood for it – with dignity, without drama, and as a role model. He leaves behind no promises or conflicts, but something far more valuable – respect. He shows that even in difficult times, if you stay true to the game and to your team, you will be remembered for what you did – not for what you said.

Union Vrede FC will always have a place for people like Idriz Mehmedov – not because he was the loudest, but because he was one of the most valuable.

Thank you, Idriz. For your commitment, your attitude, and for staying when things were tough.
